TERMUX

TERMUX

Termux is an application for the Android operating system. It is a terminal emulator with an extensible Linux environment. After installing the application, there is a minimal environment in which it is possible to install a number of terminal applications known from the Linux operating system

Basic informationEdit

Termux is equipped with its own pkg packaging system, which simplifies the installation of packages and for which a large number of packages are prepared. Among other things, a compiler for the C clang programming language with a number of extension libraries is available for Termux This allows you to compile your own applications in and for Termux. Termux is equipped with compilers and interpreters for many other languages, such as Python , Java , Go , Rust and others. Midnight Comander file managers Vim text editor SSH applications and more are available, making Termux a comfortable working environment for devices with Andriod, especially if it is equipped with a keyboard[2] . In many applications, there is no difference between working on a Linux PC in a terminal environment and on Android and Termux devices. However, this environment is not full-fledged due to the limitations of the Android system, which does not allow direct access to the hardware. E.g. there is no access to the USB port and devices connected to this port in Termux. In newer versions of Android, 'top' information commands do not work due to restrictions on access to the  proc file system.

AvailabilityEdit

The Termux application is officially available in two repositories, Google Play [3] and F-Droid [4] . The application is divided into several packages, the main and several additional plugins

  • Termux - free, main package
  • Termux: API - free, a set of commands for working with Android (reading SMS, GPS, notifications, ...)
  • Termux: Boot - paid, allows you to run Termux scripts when starting an Android device
  • Termux: Float - paid, allows you to run Termux in a floating window
  • Termux: Styling - paid, allows you to set the colors and font of the terminal
  • Termux: Task - paid, allows you to run tasks in Termux regularly using the Tasker application
  • Termux: Widget - paid, allows you to run programs in Termux using icons on the desktop
